Fujairah Chamber Discusses the Future of Economy and Business for “Designing the Next 50”

Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a workshop entitled “The Future of Economy in the Next 50”, attended by members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and His Excellency Sultan Al Hindasi, Director General of the Chamber. The workshop came as a response to the project launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for ‘Designing the Next 50’ to involve the public in shaping the future of the UAE and establishing the pillars of the UAE’s Centennial Plan 2071 and the comprehensive development plan for the next five decades.

The workshop was organized in coordination with Diwan Al Amiri (Ruler’s Office) in Fujairah via “Zoom”, and moderated by HE Mohammed Obaid bin Majid, Director General of the Department of Industry and Economy in Fujairah. It featured 3 research papers, presented by HE Juma Mohammed Al Kait, Assistant Undersecretary for the Foreign Trade Sector at the Ministry of Economy (MoE), HE Sharief Habib Alawadhi, Director General of the Fujairah Free Zone Authority, and Captain Salem Abdullah Al-Afkham AlHamoudi, Director of the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, “FOZ”.

The paper presented by HE Juma Al Kait discussed the stages of developing national economy, foreign trade and the business sector, supported by statistical data. HE Sharief Alawadhi’s paper presented future visions on the business, economic and trade environment in the Emirate of Fujairah as part of the Next 50 plan. Capt. Salem’s paper touched upon the economic model in the Emirate, among other issues, focusing on the future of the Emirate of Fujairah as an international hub for bunkering, oil storage and refining, petrochemicals, logistics and tourism.
